Mr. Terri Glynn Garland, 53, of Orange Park, Fla., passed away Monday, March 8, 2010. He was born on April 30, 1956, in Jacksonville, Fla., to Gordon and Mary Ellen Garland, Sr. He began his career at the UPS warehouse in Jacksonville in 1974, when he was still a senior in high school. He had only recently retired in 2009 due to health complications. He was of the Christian faith and was a member of the Clay Community Church on Blanding Blvd. He was also drummer for the church praise band and a long time member of the Taylor Made band. He will always be remembered as a loving father, brother, uncle and friend. JOHNETTE L. HUTCHINSON
Mrs. Johnette L. Hutchison, 60, of Middleburg, Fla., passed away Sunday, March 7, 2010. She was born on February 21, 1950, in Jacksonville, Fla., to John and Charlotte Brown. She was a homemaker and was of the Methodist faith. She will be dearly missed by her loving family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, Bruce M. Mrs. Miriam Sarah Garbett-Markley, 92, was called to heaven Wednesday March 9, 2010, from Jacksonville, Fla. She was born February 6, 1918, in Nanticoke Pa. She married Charles Kenneth Markley (1914-1987) in Langhorne, Pa., in 1940. After moving to Knoxville, Tenn., in 1943, they raised son, Kenneth Charles Markley (1947-2006) and daughter, Jane Beth M. Green. “Mimi” loved God and was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her many joys included church, sports, and all animals. But the core of her soul was loving and giving to people. Whatever her children and grandchildren wanted to do, she helped make happen. Giving was always more fun than receiving and she gave to everyone. Her philosophy was “There are no strangers, only friends you don’t yet know their name.” She is survived by daughter Jane Beth Green, grandchildren Crystal, David, Jason, Nicole, and Jon Markley, son-in-law Bert Green and daughters-in-law Marie Dolce and Kathy Huczko. A memorial service was held Saturday, March 13, at Pinewood Presbyterian Church, where she was a member. Mr. Thomas Joseph Bannon, 76, of Green Cove Springs, Fla., passed away on Tuesday, March 9, 2010. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on June 25, 1933, to Michael and Christina Bannon. He was a Korean War Veteran and served his country honorably in the United States Air Force. He will be deeply missed by his friends at Governors Creek Nursing Home. Mrs. Marvene Ann Brower, 70 formerly of Middleburg, passed away Tuesday evening, March 9, 2010, in a local hospital with family at her side. She was a lifelong resident of the Jacksonville area and a homemaker. She attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Mandarin. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Eleanor Hartley; one daughter Rena McHan; a granddaughter, Katlyn Brower; and a sister, Marie Hough. Survivors include her husband, John Brower, two sons, Scott (Roxanne) McHan and JW (Lisa) Brower; four daughters, Michele (Michael) Collins, Tresa Ruth, Terie (Kenneth) Bramlett, and Evelyn (Dwayne) Clifton, 17 grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and nine nieces and nephews. Mr. Kenneth “Grandpa” Horsley, 49, of Middleburg, Fla., passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2010. He was born on April 7, 1960, in Indianapolis, Ind., to Jack and Marcella Horsley. He served in the United States Army and had worked as a decorative fabricator. He was an AA sponsor and helped at the Tradition House and the Gateway Rehabilitation Center. He loved Harley-Davidson Motorcycles and will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends. Mr. Gerald “Jerry” Smith, Jr., 84, of Fleming Island, Fla., passed away Friday, March 12, 2010. He was born on April 2, 1925, in Clarksburg, WV to Gerald and Helen Smith. He was a World War II Veteran, serving his country in the United States Navy and was a member of the Marine Corps League. He had worked as an insurance investigator and had lived in the local area since 1980, moving here from Fairmont, WV. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Orange Park as well as a member of Lakeshore Moose Lodge #2020 in Orange Park where he had been the Administrator of the Lodge. He enjoyed reading, golf, collecting hand guns and collecting miniature cars. He will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Betty H. Smith. He is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Catherine R. Smith; sons, Gerald N. Smith III (Vicki), Richard A. Smith and Robert K. Smith (Deborah); daughters, Sandra J. Mrs. Louella Anna Whitfield, 87, passed away Thursday, March 11, 2010. She was born on June 1, 1922, in Anderson, Ala., to Luther and Bertha Bassham. She moved to Green Cove Springs 40 years ago coming from Bartow, Fla. She was of the Baptist faith and was a very strong independent woman who would do anything for anyone. She was a wonderful mother and Me Mal who enjoyed fishing and loved to go to Bingo. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Finley; daughter, Betty McBrayer; granddaughter, Tammy Havis and her sister, Edna Havis. Mrs. Beverly A. Sauer, 74, of Middleburg passed away Saturday, March 6, 2010. She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 20 at 3 p.m., at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses located at 17 Knight Boxx Road, Orange Park, Fla., 32065. Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 56 years, Harvey Sauer; her daughter, Janene Floyd; son, Hank Sauer; grandchildren, Jason Sauer, Joshua, Jessica, Joel and James Generazio and Jonathan Floyd; great-grandchildren, Brittney Generazio, Trenton and Addison Sauer, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was a member of the Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses and touched the lives of many people. She will be immensely missed by a host of loving relatives and sorrowing friends. “Meme” will always be remembered by her kindness towards others, large welcoming smile, and a drive for life that will not be forgotten.

Mrs. Anna James Tiedt, age 75, passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2010. She was born in Yonkers, NY. She was a U.S. Postal Service mail carrier contractor for the Middleburg area and was the former president of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW 8255. She is survived by her husband Howard E. “Gene” Tiedt, two sons; Michael Popovich and Lester Pidgeon; daughter, Andrea Mizell and four grandchildren. Mr. Kennith R. Baker passed away in Gainesville, Florida on Saturday, March 13, 2010, after a courageous and lengthy battle with illness. He was born in Hurley, Va., on May 10, 1943. The youngest of fourteen children, he was preceded in death by his parents and nine siblings. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Colleen H. Baker and two daughters, Sheila Lucas (Michael) of Gainesville and Shirley Roberts (Jonathan) of Middleburg; two sisters, Hettie Crumpler (J.T.); Beulah Ledlow of Tucson, Ariz.; two brothers, William Baker of Edgewater, Fla., and Donald Baker of Plainfield, Ill.; sisters-in-law, Anna Nelson (Bob); Linda Norman (Dan) of Green Cove Springs; Shelva Jean Dotson of Phelps, Ky.; and Trula Puckett (“Toot”) of Circleville, Ohio; also survive. He held a special place in the hearts of the many nephews and nieces who dearly loved ‘The Unk’. A veteran of the US Army, he served during the Vietnam era. He worked for almost 30 years as millwright in the Arizona copper mining industry. His home was a gathering place for family and friends through out the years. He will be remembered for his love of family and country, his generous nature and unwavering strength. Mr. Darrel Dwayne Jones, 40 of Keystone Heights passed away suddenly on Saturday March 13, 2010. He was born in Stockton, Calif., on July 2, 1969, and was a Journeyman Diesel Mechanic. He attended the Assembly of God Church and was a member of the N.R.A.. He is survived by his wife of 17 years Cindy Jones; their children, Bo Thomas Jones and Alexis Deelee Jones. He is also survived by his parents, Thomas and Patty Jones; one sister, Bryce Jones all of Keystone Heights. A viewing for Mr. Jones was held on Tuesday, March 16 at the Jones-Gallagher Funeral Home.
